Aesthetics and the City – Edited Book Launch Event – Wednesday 8th October 2025 – 3pm UK time
Join us for the launch of Aesthetics and the City, an edited collection that explores the vital role of aesthetics in shaping urban experience. Bringing together contributors from across disciplines and global contexts, this book launch examines how aesthetics relates to how cities and urban spaces are perceived, organised, and transformed.
Through a series of short presentations from the book’s contributors, we will celebrate and ponder the wide diversity of aesthetic approaches within urban studies, noting that the way aesthetics is understood impacts what can be understood about cities and the urban order more generally. We collectively make the case that aesthetics is a rich, critical lens through which to examine the enduring relevance of the city in contemporary urban thought.
This event will be of interest to anyone working in urban studies, geography, planning, politics, and the social sciences more broadly. The book contains contributions by Taher Abdel-Ghani, Amy Barron, Joe Blakey, Julian Brigstocke, Mónica Degen, Stefanie Fridrik, Günter Gassner, Beatriz Guijarro Turégano, Amr Ibrahim, Sanna Lehtinen, Friederike Landau-Donnelly, Yara Mohamed, Salila Vanka, and Josh Widera.
The event will last around 1 hour 30 minutes.
